The aim of the research programme Nordic Spaces: Formation of States, Societies and Regions, Cultural Encounters, and Idea and Identity Production in Northern Europe after 1800 is to generate new research on Northern Europe and research collaboration within the region.

Associate professor (docent) of Folkloristics/Ethnology in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland. Member of the Nordic Spaces in the North and North America project.
Associate professor (docent) of Folkloristics/Ethnology in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland. His research interests range from regimes of cultural heritage to intellectual property regimes and from contemporary folklore to museum history. In recent years he has published numerous articles and edited volumes on cultural heritage as concept, discourse, and policy and on the paradoxical relationship between copyright and folklore. His study of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage is forthcoming in a monograph (University of Illinois Press).
