  1. Nordic Spaces secures contract for book series with Ashgate

    The Nordic Spaces research programme has secured an agreement with British academic publisher Ashgate for the the publication of a book series, "The Nordic Experience", consisting of five volumes. Three of the books will be included in the Ashgate History list, one in the Politics list and one in the Music list, but the series as a whole will be promoted across a variety of disciplines. In total the books contain close to 60 chapters addressing various aspects of the Nordic region. The series has been accepted after a rigorous peer review conducted by 10 international experts.

  2. New book by the Dance in Nordic Spaces project

    The scholars of the Nordic Dance in Nordic Spaces project have published a new book at Tapir forlag, Trondheim. This book fills a gap in existing dance studies literature on the Nordic countries, and contains eight chapters addressing different aspects of the role of dance in the formation of Norden.

  4. Book launch at Almedalen political week

    The book "Ett nordiskt rum" (A Nordic Space), which features a range of contributions from scholars in the Nordic Spaces project, was launched at a seminar during the Almedalen political week in Visby, Gotland, under the headline: The Baltic Countries - 20 years after their regained independence.

  5. Nordic Spaces scholars participate in SASS conference in Chicago

    At the 101st Annual Meeting of The Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study, held in Chicago on 28-30 April 2012, scholars from the Nordic Spaces programme featured in two sessions with paper presentations.

  6. New book: “Ett nordiskt rum”

    The yearbook of the Riksbankens jubileumsfond for 2011 is themed around Norden, and features a range of researchers from the Nordic spaces programme.

  7. Presentations in Tromsö, 11-14 August

    Several members of the Nordic Spaces programme are participating in the 27th meeting of Nordic historians in Tromsö, 11-14 August. Members of the National History – Nordic Culture project are organising a half day session and Sverker Sörlin is participating in a round table discussion on Nordic polar research.

  8. Peter Stadius talks on Finnish TV about Nordens dag

    To celebrate the occasion of Nordens dag (The Day of Norden) on March 23, Finnish TV Yle ran a segment on the issue of Nordic identity.

  9. Journal launch at Lithuanian Embassy in London

    The British-Lithuanian Society introduces a special issue of the academic journal Central Europe dealing with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The new issue will be introduced by Dr Richard Butterwick (School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London, and Dr Eglė Rindzevičiūtė (Linköping University, Sweden) at the Lithuanian Embassy in London on January 10.

  10. Theme Issue on Nordic Heritage

    The journal Culture Unbound has a new issue out entitled "Uses of the Past: Nordic Historical Cultures in a Comparative Perspective", edited by Peter Aronsson. Of the articles no less than seven are written by scholars from Nordic Spaces, representing three of the sub-projects.

  11. Baltic Studies Conference, June 2011

    On 12–15 June 2011, the 9th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe is organised at Södertörn University, Huddinge, Stockholm. The theme of the conference is- Transitions, Visions and Beyond.

  13. Nordic Spaces meeting at the Faroe Islands

    On August 25–27, the Steering Committee of Nordic Spaces convened in the Nordic House in Torshavn, the Faroe Islands. In a short video some of the members reflect on the Nordic region and the value of Nordic research cooperation.
